Founders assume LinkedIn costs either 5 minutes a day, the guru version, or their whole life, the fear version.
Both wrong, and the real number decides whether this is sustainable for you, so here it is from my actual client calendar.
With a system: about 5 hours a month
My clients give me 1 recorded hour. A conversation, 26 questions, about their month, their opinions, the thing that annoyed them at a client meeting. That recording is the source material for everything: posts, carousels, video clips.
Then roughly 2 hours across the month approving content and topics in ClickUp, usually from a phone. A monthly call for strategy and numbers. And 30 to 60 minutes of being a human, replying to real comments and messages. I handle everything between those touchpoints, and the whole process is documented here.
Doing it yourself: the math nobody publishes
A good post takes most founders 45 to 90 minutes. Not because they’re slow, because packaging expertise for a feed is a separate skill from having expertise. At 3 posts a week that’s 9 to 18 hours of writing a month, before ideas, before visuals, before engagement.
The founders who sustain it either genuinely enjoy writing, in which case, sincerely, keep going, or they eventually go quiet around week 6. I’ve watched the week 6 pattern enough times that I wrote the full comparison of your 3 options here.
The hour that matters most
If you take 1 thing from this: the recorded hour is the irreducible part. Everything else can be delegated, the talking can’t, because the talking is where your actual voice lives.
Protect that hour, delegate the other 20, and the math finally works.
Quick answers
How much time does LinkedIn take a founder each month?
With a full system handling strategy, writing, and design, about 5 hours a month: a 1 hour recorded interview, roughly 2 hours reviewing content, a monthly call, and light engagement. Doing everything yourself at 3 posts a week honestly runs 13 to 25 hours a month.
Can I do LinkedIn in 1 hour a week?
Reviewing and engaging, yes. Writing 3 good posts a week in 1 hour, very unlikely. A single strong post takes most founders 45 to 90 minutes. The founders who sustain a real cadence either love writing or have removed writing from their plate.
What is the minimum viable time investment?
One honest hour of recorded conversation a month. That interview can source weeks of authentic content if someone turns it into posts, which is the entire idea behind interview based systems.
